Reported by eFurniture for Office Furniture & Design on 7/27/2010
Forward To Friend Print Article

Cologne, Germany (July, 2010) - Sustainability and revitalisation are currently among the topics shaping the planning and design of offices and facilities. Also very important is the question of how to boost health and creativity. This is why ORGATEC, the leading international trade fair for offices and facilities (26th to 30th October 2010 in Cologne), will provide a central platform for discussing these and further topics: the ULTIMA OFFICE trend forum in Hall 6 (Stand A70 / B 71). Leading experts from the areas of architecture, planning, sustainability, trade and work research will address trends and examples of best practice in presentations lasting between 90 and 120 minutes, which will be divided into three to five short presentations by individual speakers. A real estate expert from Jones Lang LaSalle, for instance, will discuss the topic of sustainability and the real estate business, while a representative from Deutsche Bank will give a presentation on the sustainable revitalization of existing properties, with reference to Deutsche Bank’s Greentowers at the company’s headquarters in Frankfurt.

This means the audience can either listen to the whole block of topics or select individual aspects. Every day the agenda will include a block of topics in the morning and another one in the afternoon.

On the afternoon of 26th October, for instance, the block of topics “Office Lighting Worlds” organised by Bartenbach LichtLabor will kick off the programme, focusing on themes including “The symbiosis of light and space —interaction of light and materials”, planning of daylight and artificial lighting in the office or “Light & architecture”. For the morning session on 27th October, the Association of Office, Seating and Office Facility Furniture (BSO) is hosting the block of topics “Creativity and health in the office — Success factors and workplace design”. The discussions here will address workplace conditions that foster creativity and good health, the effects of sounds and noise in the office and the topic of light and lighting of office work spaces.

In the afternoon of the same day, the block of topics “Health in the office” organised by the Bundesverband Bürowirtschaft (Federal Association of the Office Industry) will address aspects such as new approaches to humidification, “The healthy office – Manual for a partnership with Hochtief Construction AG” or “Health in the office – Furniture and more”.

The programme for the Thursday of the trade fair (28th October 2010) is being organized by the publication WirtschaftsWoche. The highlight of the morning session is the ceremony for the Best Office Award 2010, which is to be presented by Koelnmesse and WirtschaftsWoche for the fourth time in a row to outstanding existing office concepts from Germany and abroad. Taking part will be Jürgen Bruns-Berentelg, Managing Director of HafenCity Hamburg GmbH, who will be the key-note speaker under the motto “How we will live and work in the future”. After that, the award ceremony event will take place, hosted by Roland Tichy, Editor in Chief of WirtschaftsWoche. The block of topics to follow in the afternoon will focus on the question of real estate use and sustainability. In addition to presentations by representatives of Jones Lang LaSalle and Deutsche Bank, office conversion possibilities will be discussed from the perspective of architects; the programme will be topped off with a discussion panel involving all the speakers.

The programme on Friday, 29th October 2010 is reserved for the topic “Facility management”. i²fm – the International Institute for Facility Management is responsible for the programme. In the morning session, in the context of revitalization, the FM experts will address “Tools for project success I: The exact requirements analysis”, focusing on the example of the project “Microsoft’s NRW branch”, with a view to relocation and new construction, followed in the afternoon by “Tools for project success II: Demanding requirements of the project”. For this, the participants will use a presentation of the RTL project as a basis for addressing the process of setting targets, opportunity management and boosting efficiency.

The ULTIMA OFFICE trend forum will be rounded out with the exhibition forthe Best Office Award 2010 in the adjacent Trend Forum Cafe.
